Evolt 360 Technology, Accuracy & Scanning Conditions

Bioelectrical impedance (BIA) technology relies on consistent scanning conditions to ensure accurate and repeatable body composition results

Evolt 360 Technology

As with all forms of body composition assessment, bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) technology requires strict standardization of testing conditions to ensure accuracy and repeatability of results. BIA measures the impedance and reactance of body tissues at a specific point in time, allowing differentiation between lean body mass and body fat mass.

It is important to recognize that the human body is highly dynamic and responsive to factors such as training load, nutritional intake, supplementation, and medications. These variables can influence scan results and should be carefully considered when interpreting changes over time. The technology itself is scientifically validated and widely used in both clinical and medical settings; therefore, most variability observed in scan outcomes is attributable to external or human-related factors rather than the technology itself. For this reason, standardized testing protocols are essential.

To ensure meaningful comparison between scans, all assessments should be conducted under consistent conditions, including the following:

  1. Perform scans at the same time of day

  2. Maintain consistent hydration

    • Females: 2L the day prior

    • Males: 3L the day prior

    • Plus 500 ml approximately 1 hour before the scan

  3. Keep food intake consistent between scans

  4. Take the same medications and supplements as usual

  5. Keep caffeine intake consistent (no caffeine is recommended prior to scanning)

  6. Avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours before the scan

  7. Scan during the same phase of the menstrual cycle (e.g. follicular or luteal phase)

  8. Avoid exercise or heat exposure prior to scanning

  9. Ensure full contact with all silver tactile points throughout the scan

    • Complete palm contact is essential to accurately assess all five body compartments

  10. Hands and feet must be clean prior to testing

Adhering to these guidelines helps ensure the most reliable and interpretable results over time.
