Why Should Pregnant People Not Scan on the Evolt 360?
Woman will experience a large amount of change in body composition over the course of the 40 week pregnancy
While BIA scanning is considered safe during pregnancy, we do not recommend that women undergo scans during this time. This is because significant and natural changes in body composition occur across the 40 weeks of pregnancy as the baby develops.
Maternal weight gain is essential for healthy fetal development, and both the rate and type of change vary across each trimester. Increases in maternal weight reflect changes in multiple factors, including the growth of the fetus, uterus, placenta, amniotic fluid and membranes, as well as changes in maternal body fat, breast tissue, and total body water (TBW).
Total body water increases by approximately 5–8 litres during pregnancy, and the composition of lean tissue also changes as pregnancy progresses. These shifts compromise the accuracy of body composition measurements, making it difficult to reliably assess pre‑pregnancy body composition or track meaningful changes during pregnancy.
For these reasons, we recommend that women refrain from BIA scans while pregnant.
